Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic and substitute James Ward-Prowse all scored as Southampton won 3-0 at West Ham United's new London Stadium on Sunday. It was the day's only Premier League fixture, and the result has moved the increasingly impressive Saints up to ninth in the table.

Meanwhile, the Hammers remain locked in the drop zone after a fifth defeat already in this young season.

Midfield man Michail Antonio couldn't add to his joint league-leading five goals. More important, star forward Dimitri Payet had little support all day.

Antonio's struggles mean the top-scorers table retains an unchanged look:

Southampton's goalscorers showed the visitors' effective blend of brawn and technical craft in attack. Austin pounced after a neat exchange of passes between the imperious Tadic and raiding full-back Ryan Bertrand.

The latter played the ball across for the big man to sweep home. Another tidy finish confirms Austin's place as one of the most prolific Englishman in the Premier League, according to OptaJoe:

The word "clinical" stands out as the perfect description for Southampton's efforts up front in east London. Both Austin and Tadic were on the scoresheet, despite contrasting performances.

Austin was relatively quiet, while Tadic was influential throughout. Squawka detailed how the Serbian technical marvel imposed himself on the Hammers:

Yet, for all Austin's hustle and all of the creative craft from Tadic, Southampton didn't need too many shots to build their two-goal lead:

There's proof of the efficiency new manager Claude Puel has cultivated. Of course, it helps to have ruthless players up front.

Austin has been cool with his chances. It's a quality at the heart of his recent scoring run, one noted by Sky Sports Statto:

The contrast between both strikers summed up the game. While Austin was a nuisance, West Ham's Simone Zaza barely registered.

The Juventus loanee looked lost leading the attack. His movement was pedestrian and predictable, and he rarely showed a willingness to hold things up and play with his back to goal.

Understandably, the Italian international came in for some strong criticism. In particular, BBC Radio 5 live Sport's Chris Sutton didn't mince his words (h/t BBC Match of the Day):

By contrast, there was a confidence and fluency about the Saints going forward, particularly on the break. Their counters were precise and devastating against West Ham.

It was a combination Ward-Prowse was grateful for, as his goal marked a career first for the 21-year-old, according to Squawka:

The Saints have the firepower to continue making waves on Puel's watch. Austin won't beat Manchester City's Sergio Aguero or any of the division's other big-name marksmen to the Golden Boot. But he'll still be an effective focal point at the heart of Southampton's forward line this season.

As for the Hammers, manager Slaven Bilic needs a centre-forward he can trust—one who can ease the burden on Antonio and Payet. Finding the right striker is just one of an increasing host of problems facing the Hammers.
